The flies of Texas are upon you. I've been to San Antonio for a paper conference, business, and the Alamo Bowl. Here are a few pix from my trips.
The Riverwalk is the key attraction of San Antonio. A nice place for a leisure stroll or boat tour, it's quite romantic at night, depending on your company. The bulk of it is over-priced/rated restaurants and tourist shops but there are a few gems in the rough (Casa Rio and Boudros come to mind). The missions on the south side of town are fun to tour. Accomodations run from Four diamond all the way down to the single facet on one diamond. Might I suggest the concierge level of the Hyatt for a place to stay? If not, then there is always Motel 6.
The Magic Time Machine, off the loop, not too far from the airport, is a great place to have dinner. The servers dress like scooby doo, dorothy, batman, juliet, etc. and react in character. My holmes started hitting on juliet and romeo came out thuglike evil to lay the smackdown. They don't open until 4pm.
Other fun things to do include going on the mission tour. No, LA troll, not those kinds of missions. These missions are from centuries ago. They have a texas brewery tour too.
If not for the tourism I do not know what keeps San Antonio alive. Ray Ban doesn't employ that many people. I do know it's a 7 hour drive from San Antone to Lubbock in a crummy 1997 Cavalier if you make good time!
Shot from the Riverwalk boat tour. You can pick up tickets for these independently run tours along the Riverwalk. | The 550 foot Tower of Americas. The CN Tower it's not but in San Antone it's impressive nonetheless. |
This is my summer home. I named it 'The Alamodome.' | Another picture of the Alamodome. |
