The monument avenue statues features some noteworthy Virginians whose names I cannot remember. | A shot of downtown across from the Capitol |
Robert E. Lee statue in the Capitol building. The mace of the Confederacy and many other memorabilia are kept on display on the grounds. (Note: there is no such thing as a yard or a lawn in Virginia. They are known simply as 'grounds'.) | The Houdron at the Capitol. The most prized rendition of George Washington. He posed for it (one of the few renditions he posed for). It was carved from a single slab of marble. The cane was not attached later: it was carved out of the single slab of marble. |
