Richmond City

Richmond is incredible. A metro area of 900,000 (including the city, Henrico and Chesterfield counties) that feels much bigger in terms of its culture and entertainment yet smaller enough to call home and know people. A complete synergy of the old and the new. Intense history. From the Revolutionary to Civil wars to the biggest cigarette manufacturing site on earth (to my knowledge). Some of the oldest buildings in the United States (the Poe residence and Halfway House come to mind). Wonderful parks. Award-winning universities. A little bit of something for everybody.

The pictures that follow show some of the highlights of what you will see around Richmond. There are so many other things to see and do from a historical standpoint. I simply did not take my camera everywhere.

Downtown Richmond: the James Center Plaza entrance Where Patrick Henry made the "Gimme Liberty" speech
A Gothic church in downtown Richmond Mural to accompany the St. John's picture
The Jefferson Hotel: a consistent 5 Star AAA performer! If you like brownstones, downtown is the place to live!
The Shockoe Slip: a collection of shops and restaurants. Tobacco Company. If you dine in Richmond, stop here first!
