Monticello
Monticello is the home that Jefferson built. This is a marvel of French architecture, of which Jefferson was completely self-taught. We think of him as a patriot, statesman, President. But he was much more. He implemented agricultural practices that were far advanced for his time. He dabbled in astronomy, made his own telescopes. Monticello is a huge collection of books, inventions and knicknacks. It is located near Charlottesville, home of the 'hoos of UVA, and close to the splendid Blue Ridge mountain range.
Monticello is best known for the house. The rotunda was quite the new thing to do in the mid 1700s. | An expanded shot of the grounds on this pleasantly steamy July afternoon. |
