Indianapolis 500
During a well-timed training session with a vendor I was privy to goto the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for time trials before race day. The track is huge...2.5 miles around or so. It's so big that you can't see the whole track at any one point unless you're in the tower. They have a golf course in the middle to put it in perspective. How people can golf with the noise is beyond me! Here are a few pictures from the event:

Shot of the garages and far stands from the top of the infield. It was a bit hot that day! | The cars are very loud and running the 4.0L Aurora engine for the most part. |

Quite a few people came out for this despite the blistering heat and threat of rain. | Our seats were right by the pits. Note: always stay close to the sales guys! Free Beer! Woo Hoo! |
And I have become comfortably numb! Kevin tried to get a picture of the car going by at 220mph. 200 speed film does NOT mean you can capture objects at 200mph unfortunately.
If you've never been to a Indy-style car race it's unlike nothing you've ever experienced in person. It was like experiencing NASCAR all over again, only more extreme. The cars mouse their way out of the pits and by the time they make it around once they are going 220+ mph! 43 seconds later they are blasting by! The sheer noise and speed are awesome.
