The flood of 93 devastated many river communities across the country. It certainly changed Manhattan forever. But I was fortunate to be on high ground. I figured that out when I saw the 'tubers starting outside our front yard.

Through it all there was a great sense of community involvement and as a financially strapped college student the idea of stacking sandbags for free pizza was a fair trade.

The flume is typically far less active than this. This reservoir is typically empty. It was at least 30 feet deep.
A view of the water coming down the spillway. An incredible volume of earth was moved by this water, leaving a filthy mess. Afterward they found some fossils not native to this area.
The flood gates were never fully opened to my knowledge. That would have devastated the entire east side of Manhattan. I stand in astonishment.
