The flood of 93 devastated many river communities across the country. It certainly changed Manhattan forever. But I was fortunate to be on high ground. I figured that out when I saw the 'tubers starting outside our front yard.
Through it all there was a great sense of community involvement and as a financially strapped college student the idea of stacking sandbags for free pizza was a fair trade.

The flume is typically far less active than this. | This reservoir is typically empty. It was at least 30 feet deep. |
A view of the water coming down the spillway. | An incredible volume of earth was moved by this water, leaving a filthy mess. Afterward they found some fossils not native to this area. |
The flood gates were never fully opened to my knowledge. That would have devastated the entire east side of Manhattan. | I stand in astonishment. |
